Individual Private Health Insurance

Although the NHS provides a level of medical services for all UK residents, there are occasions when the benefits of private healthcare will be apparent. Such benefits can include a wider choice of treatments, medication and therapies and more choice as to where and when you have your diagnosis and treatment.

Aviva private healthcare cover comes with particular unique benefits. These include up to 40% discount at selected UK gyms, MyHealthCounts health programme (which can reduce premiums by up to 15%), up to 66% no claims discount, free coverage for children in certain circumstances and a speedy efficient services backed by over 300 private hospitals throughout the UK.

Types of Cover

Aviva private healthcare insurance includes core cover for every policyholder. This includes cover in respect of hospital charges, specialists' fees, diagnostic tests and radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Specifically excluded are pre-existing conditions, long-term or chronic conditions, alcohol, drug or solvent abuse and HIV/AIDS.

On top of core cover, a wide range of additional benefits can be added. These include:

  • Other treatments and therapies – included are physiotherapy, acupuncture and chiropractic treatment.
  • Optical and dental – covers the cost of normal dental expenses, optical expenses and accidental dental injuries.
  • Psychiatric – to include in or day-patient psychiatric treatment.
  • A hospital list that is extended – this option adds certain hospitals to the list of those available under the policy.
  • Protected no claims discount – by paying a little extra, the no claims discount can be protected so even if new claims are made, there won't be a reduction in NCD.

As well as the above additions to core cover, there are also a number of options to reduce the level of benefits and thereby lower premiums. These include:

  • Cover reduced for out-patients – limit to either £500 or £1,000.
  • Six week option – benefits only available if NHS treatment is not available within six weeks.
  • Policy excess – can choose from £100 to £5,000.
  • Reduced hospital list. Mostly using the private patient units of NHS hospitals.

My Health Cash Plan – Provides cash payments in respect of dental and optical expenses, prescription and GP charges, therapies (physiotherapy, osteopathy, chiropractic, homeopathy and acupuncture), health screening and baby bonus. Also included is a discount of up to 40% for selected UK gyms and a GP that is 24-hours on call or stress counselling help line.

Child health insurance – Aviva offer a specialist child policy covering such things as in-patient and out-patient treatment, hospital charges, therapies, home nursing etc.

International Health Insurance – designed to provide flexible benefits and coverage with access to leading international hospitals and clinics, Aviva private healthcare international insurance includes the following benefits, subject to conditions and limitations:
